Attending the VPA’s 11th Party Congress for the 2020-2025 tenure, Trong, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, emphasised the need to be well aware of the special position and role of the army and its Party organisation.

The army is the one of the people, by the people, and for the people, and is directly and absolutely led by the Party, so the army is therefore absolutely loyal to the Party and the nation and has a strong attachment to the people, he noted.

Stressing that discipline is a strength of the VPA, the leader requested that the Party organisation intensify inspection and supervision, tighten discipline, and improve personnel to meet requirements in nation building and safeguarding in the new circumstances.

The entire army should increase the quality and efficiency of mass mobilisation, take the initiative in protecting the Party’s ideological foundation, and destroy conspiracies of “peaceful evolution”, “self-evolution”, and “self-transformation”, he suggested.

Trong also asked that more effort be made to promote the army’s core role in building an all-people defence force and all-people defence posture in association with people’s security posture, improve the quality of defence areas, and increase defence potential and national strength so as to promptly and effectively respond to arising circumstances.

It is also important to bolster logistics and technical works and develop the defence industry to meet requirements in army building and socio-economic development, he added./.
