Former Vice State President awarded Party insignia

Nguyen Thi Binh, former Party Central Committee and former Vice State President, was awarded the 70 year Party membership insignia during a ceremony held by the Party Committee of the State President Office on August 31st.

The insignia awarding ceremony also aimed to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2nd).

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, State President Tran Dai Quang respectfully awarded the insignia to former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh.

Addressing the ceremony, State President Tran Dai Quang stressed that the insignia is the high appreciation of the Party, State and people for the great contribution of the former Vice State President to the struggle for national liberation, reunification, construction and protection.

He noted no matter her position, the former Vice State President has been completely loyal to the Party, fatherland and people, wholeheartedly serving the revolutionary process, excellently realizing her tasks, and deserving the trust of the Party, State and people.

Former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh said she was honoured to receive the insignia, pledging to be a good Party member and a good citizen.

The former Vice State President’s life and career is a bright example for the young generation to study and follow.

In 1944 when she was only 17 years old, she led students’ movements and women’s movements in protecting peace for intellectual circles. In 1947, she was admitted to the Communist Party of Indochina (now Communist Party of Vietnam).

She was assigned by the Party and State with diverse important positions, including Vice President of the southern Vietnam liberation Women’s Union in 1960, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, Head of the negotiation delegation at the Paris Conference on Vietnam (1969-1973), and Minister of Education (1976-1987). From 1992 to 2002, she was Vice State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

After her retirement, despite poor health, she participated in the establishment of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, striving to contribute more to the Party and country./.
