Government leaders donate to assist flood-affected regions

On August 7th, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Deputy Prime Ministers Truong Hoa Binh, Vuong Dinh Hue and Vu Duc Dam attended a ceremony to donate money assisting the people in the northwestern regions who have been affected by torrential rain and floods.

Organized by the Office of the Government, each cadre and officer donated at least one day of salary.

The initial donation amounted to VND400 million. “The Office of the Government will immediately transfer the amount of money to the Vietnam Fatherland Front for assisting northwestern localities,” said Mai Tien Dung, Minister – Head of the Office of the Government.

According to the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention, since the beginning of this year, natural disasters have killed or left missing 106 people, and damaged 1,019 houses, causing losses of over VND5 trillion.

Torrential rain and floods reported from August 1st-6th alone in northwestern localities killed 26 people, left 15 others missing, destroyed 231 houses, damaged 338 hectares of agricultural production, and ruined 145 irrigation works, causing losses of over VND940 billion.

Over the past days, the Government, ministries and unions have made great efforts to direct and assist seriously affected localities; and set up delegations to give material and spiritual support to the affected localities./.
