Government Office collects money to support flood-affected people

The Office of the Government on October 18th held a launch ceremony to collect money to help flood-affected people in central localities overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Deputy Prime Ministers Pham Binh Minh, Vuong Dinh Hue, Vu Duc Dam and Trinh Dinh Dung; cadres, officials, officers and labourers of the Office of the Government attended the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister shared the loss that people in central localities have been suffering over the past time, while the seventh storm continues to leave a negative impact on the country.

“On behalf of the Government, I suggested organizations, individuals and people share difficulties with affected people,” he said, praising the Office of the Government for organizing the ceremony.

Preliminary statistics show that recent torrential rain and flooding has killed or left missing 29 people; damaged over 121,000 houses and diverse infrastructure constructions such as medical stations, hospitals, schools, traffic and irrigation works, leading to very disadvantaged living conditions for affected residents in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces.

Earlier, the Prime Minister issued diverse dispatches on dealing with and overcoming the consequences of flooding. The Government has sent a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung to the affected localities to help them cope with the consequences.

The Cabinet has also given initial support of 1,500 tons of rice to Quang Binh province for households in flooded areas to avoid hunger. Meanwhile, support for repairing the infrastructure, including the traffic, irrigation, healthcare, education and housing constructions, will be allocated after the flood recedes./.
