Ho Chi Minh city makes efforts to fulfil year’s targets

The 14th meeting of the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee (term X) opened on October 3rd, discussing and adopting the report on the implementation of socio-economic development targets in the first 9 months of this year, and putting forth key solutions for the final months.

Over the past 9 months, the city reported 7.91% in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), and year-on-year increases in the service, tourism, trade and import-export areas.

According to the report, the city’s industrial production remains stable while progress has been made in both domestic and foreign direct investment.

The city has bettered care for the poor and beneficiaries, ensured security and national defence, while well organising meetings in the framework of APEC 2017.

However, violations in construction, traffic safety and environmental protection are still problems that concern people.

Addressing the meeting, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and Secretary of the city Party Committee, urged the city Department of Planning and Investment to improve the investment environment by continuing to smooth administrative procedures in order to attract more investment, especially from foreign investors.

Related agencies were asked to accelerate the development of the service sector, especially tourism, increase trade activities in connection with market management, prevent trade fraud, ensure food safety and prepare cultural activities for the 2018 lunar New Year festival.

Regarding investment issues, he requested related agencies to develop new industrial zones with low cost and high quality services to serve investors, and attract investors using high technology.

The leader of the city Party Committee also stressed the need to eliminate illegal constructions and better manage construction./.
