Meeting marks late Party chief’s 110th birthday

A meeting to mark the 110th birth anniversary of late Party General Secretary Le Duan was held in Dong Ha city in the central province of Quang Tri on April 7th.

Attending the ceremony were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Dai Quang and former President Truong Tan Sang, among others.


Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and many Party and State leaders sent flowers to the event.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Hung said that the event offered a chance to recall the revolutionary life and career of the late Party chief who devoted nearly 60 years to the struggle for national liberation and national reunification as well as the construction and protection of Vietnam.

Le Duan, real name Le Van Nhuan, was born on April 7th, 1907 in Bich La village, Trieu Dong commune, Quang Tri province’s Trieu Phong district.

During the 60 years of joining revolutionary activities, including 26 years he served as the First Secretary and then General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Le Duan made important contributions to bringing Vietnam’s revolutionary theory to a new height.

Following the late leader’s words, Quang Tri authorities and people have made efforts to overcome many difficulties and gained outstanding socio-economic achievements, with the province’s economic growth rate of 7.4 percent and annual per capita gross regional domestic product reaching VND36 million (USD1,588).

The Party building work has been improved, while the political system from the provincial to grassroots level has been consolidated, said Hung.

On behalf of the young generation, Hoang Tran Minh Anh from Le Quy Don gifted High School vowed to better morality and learning standards to contribute to the national building and safeguarding cause.

Earlier, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, along with a delegation of Party and State leaders and provincial authorities paid homage to the late Party
