More condolences to Vietnam over President Quang’s death

In their condolence message, leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wrote that: “We share the grief and mourning of President Quang’s family as well as the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

As a highly respected leader who had dedicated his life and career to his people, President Quang left Vietnam and our region a better place. We appreciate President Quang’s contributions to our ASEAN family.”

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko of Russia sent condolences to the Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, saying that President Quang is a talented and steadfast leader deserving the great respect and high trust that people and international friends have given to him.

They highly valued his enormous contributions to the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that the bright memories of the leader will live forever in the hearts of millions of Russians.

President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte conveyed condolences to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh while Philippine Foreign Minister Alan Peter Cayetano also sent a similar message to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

In the letters, they said President Tran Dai Quang is a true friend of the Philippine people and will always be remembered for tireless efforts during his whole life to strengthen relations with the Philippines and other countries in the region.

In his messages respectively sent to Acting President Thinh and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and Prime Minister Scott Morrison spoke highly of the huge contributions Tran Dai Quang made in many positions he held, stressing his important role in reinforcing the bilateral relations with Australia and elevating the countries’ ties to a strategic partnership earlier this year. 

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump issued a statement on the passing of President Quang, noting that: “On behalf of the American people, I express my condolences to his family and the people of Vietnam. President Quang was a great friend of the United States.”

“We will not forget his contributions to peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region or his voice for Vietnam to become a proud and independent nation on the world stage,” the statement added.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay sent a condolence letter to Acting President Thinh, mourning the death of the exemplary leader, who had many important contributions to the promotion of sustainable development values in Vietnam. She also repeated UNESCO’s commitments to continuing to work closely with the Vietnamese people and Government to bolster the cooperation between the organisation and Vietnam.

Myanmar President Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi also sent condolences to PM Phuc, while Spanish King Felipe VI extended profound condolences to Acting President Thinh and the bereaved.

Leaders of other countries also sent letters and messages of condolences to the leaders of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, and the family of President Tran Dai Quang.

They included Sultan of Oman Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan, Governor-General Patsy Reddy and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Slovak President Andrej Kiska, President of Ireland Michael Daniel Higgins, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

Condolences also came from the leaders of the Communist Party of Peru - Red Fatherland, the Communist Party of Uruguay, the Movement of Popular Participation of Uruguay, the Dominican Revolutionary Party, and the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee./.
