Newly-elected NA Chairperson takes oath of office

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Poliburo member who was re-elected as the Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA), took her oath of office and gave her inaugural speech at the NA on July 22nd.

In her oath, the newly-elected NA Chairwoman pledged full allegiance to the fatherland, people and the Constitution of Vietnam, and vowed to work hard to fulfil the duties entrusted her by the Party, State and people.

She stressed that she, together with the NA Standing Committee and all NA deputies, would efficiently carry out constitutional and legislative functions, decide important issues of the nation, and realise supreme supervision over the operation of the State, as regulated.

She also pledged to renew the operation of the NA for higher quality, for the interest of the people, for national honour and pride, as well as for sustainable national development.

Earlier, 483 of 489 valid votes agreed to elect Ms Ngan as NA Chairwoman term XIV, while the elected NA Vice Chairpersons included Phung Quoc Hien, Uong Chu Luu, Tong Thi Phong and Do Ba Ty.

In addition, 13 members of the NA Standing Committee were also elected with a high number of votes in favour./.
