He added that every achievement of the country marked great contributions from Kien Giang province. Local residents’ contributions in revolutions led to over 92,000 people being recognized as revolutionary contributors, over 16,000 as martyrs, and 1,800 resistance war activists who were imprisoned by enemies.

The Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that the Government is making great efforts to support Mekong River Delta localities in coping with climate change and salt intrusion so that they can ensure people’s lives and social welfare, and create jobs for local residents.

He noted that 8.8 million revolutionary contributors had been recognized throughout the struggle for national protection. “The Party and State have issued diverse policies to support healthcare and nursing for the contributors,” he said. “Not only central, but also local budgets put aside remarkable resources to give housing support for revolutionary contributors’ families.”

Reports from the Kien Giang provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs show that the province has bettered care for revolutionary contributors’ spiritual and material lives by fully and promptly carrying out preferential policies as regulated.

In 2016, the province has given housing support for 4,046 revolutionary contributors’ families, using VND149 billion; sought and repatriated 49 sets of remains of martyrs; and presented the title of Vietnamese heroic mothers to 305 individuals. Over 230 of 1,456 Vietnamese heroic mothers are being looked after, while nearly 100% of beneficiaries’ families in the province are living in conditions equal to or higher than the average living condition of local residents./.
