Prime Minister asks for clarification on Industry and Trade Deputy Minister’s assets

(CPV) - The Office of the Government has issued document 1583/VPCP-V.I transmitting the idea of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Secretary of the Party Committee for Civil Affairs of the Government relating to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa.

Prime Minister Phuc asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Government Inspectorate to strictly realise the direction of the Party General Secretary in document 3308-CV/VPTW dated February 16th of the Office of the Party Central Committee on working with the Party Central Committee Commission on Inspection and relevant agencies to inspect and make conclusions about the contents run by several newspapers as well as relevant issues.

He also assigned the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Government Inspectorate, and the Steering Committee on Business Reform and Development to promptly study and recheck relevant legal regulations to amend and revise them or propose an amendment or revision of the regulations, in order to complete legal regulations; fix weaknesses in the management and prevention of loss of State assets; prevent wrongdoings, corruption and interest group behaviours during the process of State enterprises’ equitization. After that, the results of work will have to be reported to the Prime Minister during the second quarter of 2017.

Earlier, the Office of the Party Central Committee issued official dispatch 3308-CV/VPTW on February 16th informing the idea of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on some news stories relating to Ho Thi Kim Thoa, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, in which Nhan dan (People) newspaper ran an article “On asset filing by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa” on February 11th; Tuoi tre (Youth) produced a story “Deputy Minister Ho Thi Kim Thoa owns assets worth of hundreds of billions of VND” on February 11th and the other “What does Deputy Minister’s family have in Dien Quang company?”; Tien Phong (Vanguard) also published articles on February 14th, 15th, 16th calling for inspections on stock acquisition and control of officials’ family ties to prevent abuse of power; and other newspapers delivered news about this issue.

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong asked the Party Central Committee Commissions on Organization and Internal Affairs, the Party Committee of Civil Affairs of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministries of Finance, Industry and Trade, as well as the Government Inspectorate, to inspect and make conclusions about the contents of the news stories as well as other related issues, promptly reporting the results to the Secretariat.

He also requested the Party Committee of Civil Affairs of the Government to direct authorized agencies to promptly study and recheck relevant legal regulations to amend and revise them or propose an amendment or revision of the regulations, in order to complete legal regulations; fix weaknesses in the management and prevention of loss of State assets; prevent wrongdoing, corruption and interest group behaviours during the process of State enterprises’ equitization./.
