Besides, the foreign media also stresses Vietnam’s desire in the effort of promoting strong growth in the region.

India’s The Economic Times newspaper has posted an article titled "APEC Summit: Recognition of Vietnam's Economic Achievements and Challenges Ahead" by author Dipanjan Roy Chaudhury.

The newspaper hailed Vietnam as one of the fastest growing economies amid the global economic slowdown, saying it has attempted to harmonise interests, seek common ground to bridge differences, and promote cooperation among APEC members while hosting the APEC meeting.

The author said Vietnam is being counted as an economy of the future, courtesy of reforms undertaken by its ruling Communist Party over the past few decades. Starting from a small, and backward economy heavily devastated after more than 30 years of war, lagging far behind the region and the world and with extremely difficult living conditions, rapid development to improve people's lives and strengthen the country was an urgent requirement for Vietnam.

At the same time, sustainable development today is a challenge for mankind. The Communist Party of Vietnam, therefore, has chosen a strategy for rapid and sustainable national development.

According to The Economic Times newspaper, Vietnam became a middle-income developing country. Progress has been achieved in industrialisation and modernisation, the proportion of industry and services in GDP has increased, while that of agriculture in GDP structure has dropped. The economic growth model has initially shifted from broad-based development to deepening development. Vietnam's national competitiveness has been improved. According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) ranking on aggregate competitiveness index, Vietnam's position rose in recent years, in 2016 it was 60 over 138 economies.

According to Algerian newspapers, Vietnam stresses the necessity for APEC member economies to establish an agenda with strategies on which they can work together to help the region continue to be the main driver in realizing the Bogor Goals in terms of trade and investment by 2020 and beyond. Over the past time, Vietnam has actively implemented and signed cooperation projects, created a favourable investment climate and gradually streamlined administrative procedures in order to facilitate businesses.

In addition, Malaysian media heightened Vietnam’s achievements of inclusive growth. Notably, The Malay Mail Online posted an article “APEC in Vietnam to promote innovation and inclusiveness” to introduce the activities under APEC 2017 Year in Vietnam, as well as bring out positive comments on Vietnam’s outcomes after its thirty years of reforms.

Besides, Cambodia’s daily newspaper Kampuchea Thmey ran an article “APEC 2017: Vision and New Position of Vietnam," in which it stressed that the support and active participation of APEC economies and international and regional organization delegates to APEC 2017 Year are considered a lever to help Vietnam show its dynamic and pioneering role and responsibility as a member of the top important economic forum in the region.

The press in New Zealand quoted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as saying that APEC is important to the country’s future economic development, and the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Meeting provides an opportunity to strengthen its commitment to the region and lay a foundation for its regional free trade agreements.

The New Zealand Prime Minister said addressing a number of contents of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will be her priority at this week’s APEC meeting in Vietnam, adding that her government is striving to remove the pact’s investor-state dispute settlement clauses, which would allow foreign corporations to sue member states in disputes.

Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China,Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the US and Vietnam.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998, and first hosted APEC in 2006./.
