“The Tailor” to represent Vietnam at 91st Oscars

According to the Department of Cinema, Vietnamese film “Co Ba Sai Gon” (The Tailor) directed by Kay Nguyen and Tran Buu Loc will compete at the 2019 Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film award.

The film tells the story of a young, arrogant girl named Lan Ngoc in the 1960s. She was born into a family of tailors who specialised in making Ao dai. She looked down on the career.

She witnesses the tragedy of her family’s trade in the future, which resulted from the fact that she had turned her back on the craft. She then realises the value of the traditional career and learns respect for traditional clothes.


Scences in the film 

The Tailor was awarded Best Feature Film at the Golden Kite Awards by the Vietnamese Cinema Association in 2017 and has been screened at various international film festivals.

Renowned actress Ngo Thanh Van said that the film will be screened in California, US, on October 20th./.
