It has organized diverse activities to collect and excavate archaeological objects and library materials; preserve and manage artifacts; and promote exhibitions of artifacts.

Many special exhibitions have been successfully organized such as "The secret of the ocean from ancient ships", "Cultural heritage, Kon Tum Ngoc Linh ginseng - The treasure of great thousands", "Ho Chi Minh - Portrait a person ", “Dai Viet’s nations and capital cities through the ages”.

In addition, the museum also conducted an excavation of ancient shipwrecks in Dung Quat in the central province of Quang Ngai and excavations of relics in the southern province of Long An and the northern province of Hai Duong.

Besides, it has welcomed and worked with partners from Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, Argentina, India and the US, along with exhibitions "Vietnamese cultural history" in the Republic of Korea, "Red River Treasure - Archaeological Collection from the Vietnam National Museum of History" in the Russian Federation.

For the second half of the year, the museum plans to carry out key activities such as continuing to revise and prepare scientific documents for the excavation of ancient shipwrecks in Dung Quat; revising objects, organizing preliminary reports on an excavation results of Ba Canh Mould in Long An province; participating in an excavation of old stone relics of An Khe in Gia Lai province; coordinate with domestic and foreign museums to survey some relics in Hai Duong, Bac Ninh and Vinh Phuc provinces./.
