Ban Flower Festival 2016 to open in Dien Bien

(CPV) - The Ban (Bauhinia Variegata) Flower Festival 2016 and a ceremony to announce a project to develop the Dien Bien Phu - Pa Khoang national tourism zone will be held in the northwest province of Dien Bien from March 13th - 15th.

The event is to respond to and popularize the Northwest - Lao Cai National Tourism Year 2017.

The Ban Flower Festival 2016 will draw the participation of northwest provinces including Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Ha Giang and the provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, along with Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi cities.

The white and purple Ban flower is typical of the northern mountainous region of Vietnam, and is usually in blossom in spring. 

A wide range of activities will be held, including an exhibition on the traditional cultures of ethnic minority groups in Dien Bien province which will showcase their images, cultural space and exhibits through a number of typical traditional customs and festivals.

Besides, sport competitions, folk games, a traditional costume show and a cuisine competition are scheduled to be held during the festival.

The Festival is a culture, sport and tourism activity to honor, preserve, promote and develop the typical heritage culture of ethnic minority groups of the northwest area in general and Dien Bien in particular; promoting the great national unity and looking toward the 13th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival 2016 for ethnic minority groups in Lao Cai./.
