Cham ethnic people enjoy Roya Haji festival

More than 17,000 of Islamic Cham people in the southern province of An Giang has enjoyed celebrating Roya Haji festival - one the two most important holidays in the locality, and is meaningful as the traditional New Year.

Mr. Haji Jacky, Chief Representative of Islam Muslim Community in An Giang province said that the festival took place from August 9th to 11th. On this occasion, people temporarily postpone business and go to the cathedral to have more blessings. Families decorate colorful flower lights and celebrate the festival.

During the festival, everyone dress in most beautiful costumes. Male aged 15 and above gather in the mosque, shake hands with people, and ask for forgiveness and lenience for any bad behavior over the past year. Meanwhile, women stay at home preparing traditional dishes to welcome relatives and guests.

This year, Standing Deputy Secretary of An Giang provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council Vo Anh Kiet visited Islamic Cham people in Chau Phong commune, Tan Chau town and presented gifts to 30 disadvantaged households./.
