Ethnic Zeng weaving in Thua Thien Hue granted collective mark

Zeng weaving products of Ta Oi and Co Tu ethnic minority groups in A Luoi district, the central province of Thua Thien Hue, have been granted collective mark at the cultural exchange, sports and tourism festival of ethnic minority groups living in the Vietnam - Laos border area, central region and the Central Highlands.

The information was released by vice director of Thua Thien Hue provincial Department of Science and Technology Ho Thang at the festival opening ceremony.

According to Decision 18702 /QD-SHTT dated March 12th, 2019, of the Director of Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology, A Luoi Zeng was certified collective mark; the certificate holder is A Luoi district Women’s  Association; Certified colors are black, white, red and green.

The list of products and services includes zeng products such as handbags, bags, suitcases, travel bags, wallets (made of imitation leather); zeng fabrics such as tablecloths, curtain, blanket and pillowcase; and zeng clothing such as clothes, ties, loincloth, belt and scarf.

Zeng weaving is a long-standing traditional handicraft of Ta Oi and Co Tu ethnic people in A Luoi district. Its products are indispensable things or costumes in community activities or important festivals of local ethnic people. Each product is valuable in many aspects because it is  not only a tool for living needs, but also a work of art, showing  unique features in the cultural treasure of A Luoi ethnic groups.

Over hundreds of years, the weaving has been preserved and promoted by local people. It has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage./.
