An exhibition and book preservation on Champa architecture - Temple and Towers in Central Vietnam, has opened in the central city of Da Nang.

The exhibition is being held by the Da Nang city Museum of Cham Sculpture in association with the Marche Polytechnic University of Italy, Italian Embassy and Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vo Van Thang, director of Da Nang city Museum of Cham Sculpture, said that since 2009, under the cooperation agreement on science and technology between Vietnam and Italy, professors from the Italian university of Marche and the Hue University of Sciences have carried out a project to preserve architectural heritage sites in Central Vietnam. On the Northern part of Hai Van Pass, the project was carried out with research on the Vo Thanh relic site of Thua Thien-Hue province and restoration of the ancient citadel in Quang Tri province. On the Southern part of Hai Van Pass, the project focused on Cham relic sites. The surveys not only provided data for the restoration and conservation of Champa temples and towers, but also useful information for visitors and researchers interested in the Cham culture, especially the connection between architecture and sculpture.

Cecilia Piccioni, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, said that activities at 19 Cham relic sites under projects by Prof. Fausto Pugnaloni is proof for Italian participation in cooperation with Vietnam on the restoration and preservation of Cham cultural heritage.
