Maps and documents which are legal and historical evidence proving Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos belong to Vietnam are on display at an exhibition which opened in Thanh Hoa province on October 13th.

On display are numerous documents and around 100 maps in Chinese, Nom (old Vietnamese writing using Chinese characters), French and modern Vietnamese, issued from the 17th to the outset of the 20th century by the Vietnamese feudal states and the French government in Indochina (on behalf of the then Vietnamese state).

Worthy of note is a collection of four atlases and 30 maps compiled and published by China through historical periods, which prove China has never managed the islands. The four atlases also defined Hainan Island as China’s southernmost point.

The two-day exhibition also introduces photos and documents on socio-economic and cultural development in Tinh Gia district and Nghi Son economic zone, and Thanh Hoa province in marine economic development, contributing to protecting Vietnam’s sea and islands./.
