Exhibition on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa at Military Zone 9

Maps, documentaries and objects on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes are on display at an exhibition which has opened at Military Zone 9 Museum in the southern city of Can Tho.

The event titled “Vietnam’s Hoang Sa, Truong Sa - Historical and legal evidence” is being held by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with Military Zone 9 High Command to affirm the country’s sovereignty over the two archipelagoes. 

The exhibits include documents in Chinese, Nom (old Vietnamese writing using Chinese characters), modern Vietnamese and French issued from the 17th to the 20th century by the Vietnamese feudal states and the French government in Indochina (on behalf of the then Vietnamese state).

There are also four atlases published by China and a six-volume atlas by Western countries also proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over the islands, together with the woodblocks of the Nguyen Dynasty and official documents approved by Nguyen kings relating to Vietnam’s exercise of sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa. 

Addressing at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Dinh Tao, chief of Representative of the Ministry of Information and Communications in Southern region, said that the event was one of important activities to provide information about sea and islands to cadres and soldiers in Military Zone 9 and people around the zone. This would contribute to educating patriotism and improving awareness and responsibilities of cadres, soldiers and people in national construction and defence.

The exhibition will run until November 29th./.
