Gia Lai province to host Central Highlands Gongs Culture Festival 2018 in mid-November

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has assigned Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize the Central Highlands Gongs Culture Festival 2018.

The festival is scheduled to take place in mid-November in Gia Lai province to honour the cultural space of the Central Highlands Gongs, in line with an action plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preserve and promote the gong cultural heritage.

Diverse activities such as gong performances, exchanges, traditional festivals of 11 ethnic groups, the art of wood sculpture and brocade weaving, Central Highlands epics telling, seminar on the preservation and promotion of gongs culture, exhibition and show on ethnic clothes will be held.

Covering five provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong, the masters of gong culture are the ethnic groups of Ba Na, Xo Dang, M’Nong, K'Ho, Ro Mam, E De, Gia Rai… The gong performances are always closely tied to community cultural rituals and ceremonies of the ethnic groups in the region. 

On November 25th, 2005, the space of gong culture in Central Highlands was recognized by UNESCO as an oral-transmitted masterpiece and intangible cultural heritage of the humanity./.
