Mold-maker spends 35 years preserving traditional craft in Hanoi

Over the past 35 year, family of artisan Tran Van Bang in Tien Phong commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi, has continued the art of mold-making for the Mid-autumn festival cakes.

 

Artisan Tran Van Ban has made molds of wood since he was small.

In the past, many people did such craft. But now, they earn their living in other work.

Cake-making molds are made of wood. According to customers’ requirements, each mold require different designs.

Each mold costs from VND 150,000 to VND 500,000

The big mold with complicated decoration is more expensive than others.
