More artifacts discovered during Thang Long Imperial Citadel

According to archeologists from the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre and the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, a number of architectural vestiges, which reflect various historical and cultural aspects of Thang Long-Hanoi, have been discovered at a recent excavation at Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi.

The information was released at a conference in Hanoi on May 16th. The conference drew the participation of 120 representatives from central agencies and scientists. It initially identified the nature, chronology, scale, function and value of relics that have appeared at the excavation.

Archaeologist Dr. Tong Trung Tin, head of the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, said that the excavation at Kinh Thien Palace, the heart of Thang Long Citadel discovered many objects, including dragon-shaped tiles of the early Le Dynasty (980-1009).

Mr. Tin added that excavation results have revealed a 6.5m-thick cultural layer with cultural classes dating back to the Dai La, Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties./.
