Project on preserving Dien Bien Phu relic site

The northwestern mountainous Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee has approved a project on preserving and promoting values of the special national relic site of Dien Bien Phu victory.

The project aims at specifying viewpoints, guidelines and policies of the Party and State on conserving and promoting the values of historical sites, towards the goal of long-term preservation of the special national relic site of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and investment in associated auxiliary constructions.

It also aims to honour the historical meaning and significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, as well as educating younger generations and stimulating tourism and socio-economic development of Dien Bien province and alleviating poverty and firmly protecting national sovereignty on the northwestern border.

The project will be focused on the implementation of three main stages, including the period to 2020, the period of 2021-2025 and the period of 2026-2030.

Tasks will be gradually carried out, such as performing scientific research; collecting, preserving and displaying artifacts; restoration and embellishment of component relics; clearance of works and households living in the monument protection area, granting land use right certificates to relic sites; investing in the construction of roads and auxiliary works; renovating and adding items for a number of existing memorial works and constructing new works of Martyrs Temple at Dien Bien Phu Battlefield (on hill F), Monument of Youth Volunteers in Dien Bien Phu (at Tuan Giao district), to invest in restoring Thai Noong Nhai village.

In addition, it is necessary to provide information, dissemination and quality of services related to Dien Bien Phu battlefield relics to further the development of historical tourism types in the locality.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will host and coordinate with relevant organisations to create favourable conditions and mobilise funds for the successful implementation of the project./.
