Thai Nguyen province: Outstanding ethnic people in 2016-2017 honored

The northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen held a conference on August 21st to honor 70 outstanding ethnic people in 2016-2017 for their contributions to community building and local socio-economic and cultural development.

Over the past years, implementing policies of the Party and State on socio-economic development in ethnic-inhabited and mountainous areas, Thai Nguyen province has promoted investment in different fields. After five years, the number of disadvantaged communes has been reduced 25%. 12 national intangible cultural heritages in ethnic-inhabited areas have been preserved and promoted.

Since 2012, more than 6,000 prestigious people have received votes. Most of them worked as Party cell secretary, head of the village or head of the family. They were provided information thanks training courses, contributing to encouraging people to implement policies and political tasks at localities. In the movement to build new-style rural areas, they actively participated in encouraging people to donate land and crops for ground clearance for rural transportation and infrastructure development.

Addressing the event, chairman of Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee Vu Hong Bac expressed his hope that these prestigious people in ethnic-inhabited areas would uphold their role as a bridge between party committees and local authorities, and ethnic people in the province.

He also asked them to continue setting examples in encouraging their relatives and community to implement policies and local regulations; actively participate in production; and encourage people to take part in the national objective program on building new-style rural area and reduce poverty sustainably./.
