An exhibition was opened at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on May 18th to give visitors an insight into late President Ho Chi Minh’s connections with European friends.

Before the exhibition’s opening, participants observed a moment of silence in honour of the late leader ahead of his 128th birth anniversary on May 19th.

The display showcases nearly 150 documents and objects focusing on activities of Nguyen Ai Quoc, the name of Ho Chi Minh when he went abroad to seek ways to save Vietnam, in Europe, his role as the founder of the country’s diplomatic relations with European countries, and European people’s sentiments towards the President.

Director of the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Culture and Sports Phan Tien Dung said most of the exhibits are original items sent from the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi.

Notable objects include two portraits of the leader painted by Eric Johanson, a photo of Ho Chi Minh and Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Stepanovich Titov, a hat and a portrait of the President presented as a gift to French physics professor Pierre Biquard, and a gift that French journalist Madeleine Riffaud presented to the Vietnamese leader.

Dung said the content and historical values of the exhibits as well as stories behind them reflect President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities in Europe, his role in making foreign policies and setting up diplomatic ties with European nations, and especially his artful behavioural style, which greatly contributed to the success of Vietnam’s revolution and the struggle for peace in the world.

The exhibition also introduces items showing President Ho Chi Minh’s imprints in many European countries where he used to live and visit.

The event will last through August 30.-
