Training course on gongs for young people in Chu Puh district

Chu Puh district has opened a training course on gongs for young people, contributing to raising awareness of preserving and promoting culture and arts values and national identities.

Rmah Rau, 13 years old, Hlop village, Chu Don commune, has participated in the training course. After the training course, Rau can perform traditional gongs to serve festivals in the village.

Gong training courses have been held since 2015 by Chu Puh district Department of Culture and Information in coordination with Chu Puh district Centre for Continuing Education and Career Education. Accordingly, six training courses were held for nearly 200 young people. Each training course lasted nearly one month.

Young people from 6 to 16 years old are considered the core to establish gong troupes in villages to serve entertainment cultural demand of local people. Therefore, the training courses help learners to play at least five gong performances in local festivals.

Chu Puh district also encourages elderly artisans to teach gongs to their descendants to preserve and promote its cultural values.

The district also organized a statue sculpture training course, and culture and sports festival of ethnic minority groups, including gongs. The event often draws the participation of more than 100 people from different gong troupes. It also provides two sets of gongs to two communal houses.

According to Nguyen Viet Manh, head of Chu Puh district Department of Culture and Information, said that the district will organize more training course on gongs for the youth in the near future. He also said that the district will promote socialization in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values, provide training course on the preservation of traditional culture to commune-level cadres; record gong performances and bring gongs to perform in schools during festivals, contributing to improving young people’s awareness of upholding values of gong culture./.
