Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day 2017 opens in Hanoi

Activities to mark Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day 2017 are taking place from April 19th to 23rd at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay town in Hanoi.

Activities will draw participation of patriarchs, artisans and people from ethnic minority groups across the country, including Muong (Hoa Binh Province), Thai (Nghe An), Kho Mu (Dien Bien), E De (Dak Lak), San Chay (Thai Nguyen), Dao (Hanoi), Ta Oi (Thua Thien – Hue), Khmer (Soc Trang), Lo Lo (Ha Giang), H’re (Quang Ngai), Gia Rai (Gia Lai) and Co Tu (Quang Nam). They will introduce visitors to their cultural practices and traditional customs.

Themed “Melody from the forest”, the event features an exhibition and performances of bamboo musical instruments, a display of bamboo items, handicrafts, cuisine and martial art demonstrations. It will also involve traditional ceremonies of ethnic minority groups, including an ancestor worship ritual of the Lo Lo people in Ha Giang province. Visitors will have a chance to join traditional folk games such as tug-of-war, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity./.
