Vietnam-funded headquarters of Lao military art troupe

A ceremony to hand over the Vietnam-funded headquarters of the Lao military art troupe took place in Vientiane on April 10th to mark the 70th anniversary of the Lao army and its 50th birthday.

The construction is billed as a gift from Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence to the Lao People’s Army.

The event drew the participation of Senior Lieutenant General Chansamon Chanyalath, Politburo member and Lao Minister of Defence; Lieutenant General Sonethong Phomlavong, Deputy Head of the General Department of Politics under the Lao People’s Army; Vietnam Ambassador in Laos Nguyen Ba Hung; Vietnam Military Attaché in Laos Tao Van Thai; and cadres and soldiers of the Lao military art troupe.

The five-storey building covered over 3,000 square metres with a total investment of nearly USD6 million, USD5.5 million of which was provided by Vietnam and the remainder came from Laos’ corresponding fund.

Addressing the event, Lieutenant General Sonethong Phomlavong expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence, the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam Military Attaché in Laos.

He affirmed that the construction is a vivid illustration of the solidarity between the two ministries, and it will make significant contributions to nurturing the special friendship between the two Parties, States and armies./.
