Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien on February 21st received Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro, who started his term in November 2018.

At the reception, the two sides exchanged views on cultural, sports and tourism cooperation as well as the direction of promoting and expanding cooperation in the future.

The Ambassador informed the plan to organize a number of major activities in music, arts, literature, design, sports and tourism in Vietnam in 2019. Typical activities include a seminar on the preservation of Hanoi Old Quarter, and cycling tournaments in Da Nang, Hue and Hoi An cities.

Mr. Antonio Alessandro also emphasized the importance of opening a non-stop air route between Vietnam and Italy.

Minister Thien expressed his support for the Ambassador's proposal to open a direct Vietnam - Italy route and suggested to promote tourism on the basis of taking the available advantages of the bilateral relationship.

In the field of sports, the Vietnamese Minister appreciated the Juventus Academy’s opening the Football Academy in Ho Chi Minh city and wished the two countries to expand cooperation in many other sports.

He proposed Italy would continue to pay attention to and sponsor cooperation projects in the field of conservation, museums and cultural and arts training for Vietnam./.
