Heavy rain inundates areas throughout northern Vietnam

People throughout northern Vietnam were forced to endure a prolonged period of heavy downpours from September 9th to 10th, resulting in rising water levels which caused severe difficulties in the daily lives of residents.

In Thai Nguyen province, at least three people were killed in heavy rains hitting the region over the past two days.

As a result of the bad conditions, in the capital of Hanoi, there are serious traffic jams clog many of main roads throughout the morning of September 10th.

Torrential rains cause severe damage to several roads in Muong Te, Tan Uyen, and Sin Ho districts in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

Vietnam attends UNHRC’s 43nd session on climate change

Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the WTO and other international organisations, led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the impact of climate change on human rights, in Geneva, which drew the participation of 47 member states, and more than 100 observer states, international organisations and non-governmental organisations.

In her remarks at the opening session, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet reiterated the priority to promote human rights amid global climate change, saying never before has the world faced such a formidable challenge.

Footwear, handbag exports reel in nearly USD14.5 billion in eight months

According to the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association, Vietnam’s export turnover from footwear products and handbags reached nearly USD14.5 billion in the first eight months of 2019.

Of the value, exports of footwear products were close to USD12 billion, while that of handbags reached USD2.475 billion, up 13.1 and 10.9 percent year on year, respectively.

Exports to top markets of Vietnamese footwear products saw increases compared to the same period last year, with the US market growing 13.5 percent, the EU, over 10.1 percent; and Japan, 11.8 percent./.
