Accordingly, the country strives to have about 39% out of 3,500 communes recognized as new-style rural areas in 2018, a 5% rise from the previous year, and at least 54 communal units recognized for meeting the standards or fulfilling the mission of building new-style rural areas by the Government leader.

Criteria for communes increased by 0.5 compared to 2017, and the number which only meets less than five criteria decreased to less than 60.

The Ministry asked to focus on solutions such as intensifying popularization work in combination with disseminating the result of realizing the Resolution on agriculture, farmers and rural areas over the past 10 years; guiding and supervising the implementation of specific scheme for new-style rural areas which was approved by the Government and competent authorities.

In addition, it also asked localities to complete essential infrastructure in communes, especially poor and difficult communes; creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development and increasing direct enjoyment for rural residents.

Assisting development and production in value chains, especially clean and safe agricultural production are top priorities./.
