According to MARD Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan, the year 2020 will see important events, including the Party Congresses at all levels towards the 13th National Party Congress. It is also a breakthrough year to realize the 5-year target (2015-2020). Accordingly, it is striving to increase the production value of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector of about 2.9 - 3.05%.

In order to successfully achieve the objectives of agricultural export, Deputy Minister Tuan said that the sector will continue to improve productivity, quality of agricultural products and production and business efficiency, while expanding the official export markets of key products, stabilizing traditional markets, and seeking potential markets. “It will also efficiently exploit the advantages of free trade agreements in boosting exports,” he said.

Along with that, the sector aims to develop forms of production and cooperation in consumption of agricultural products. “Thorough preparations will be made to boost exports after the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) come into effect,” Mr. Tuan added.

According to the MARD, in the first 5 months of 2020, the total import-export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products reached about USD27.7 billion, with more than USD15.5 billion in export and nearly USD3.3 billion in trade surplus.

Although COVID-19 is leaving a broad negative impact on the market, there has been growth in some agricultural product export, including coffee with USD1.36 billion (up 2.2%); rice, USD1.4 billion (up 18.9%); vegetables, USD310 million (up 17.5%); cinnamon, USD66 million (up 16.6%); and rattan, bamboo and sedge mats, USD197 million (up 4.7%)./.
