Agriculture, forestry and seafood exports fetched USD4.3 billion

(CPV) - Export turnover of agricultural, forestry and seafood products reached an estimated USD1.9 billion in February 2017, bringing the figure for the first two months of the year to USD4.3 billion, a year-on-year rise of 1.4%, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Of this, exports of major agricultural products were valued at USD2.4 billion, up 8.8% while shipment of rice and key products still saw no positive signs.

Rice export volume this month posted 462,000 tons, worth USD104 million, raising the figures for the two months to 799,000 tons and USD248 million, down 17.2% in volume and 40.6% in value.

Coffee saw strong recovery in export value with a 22.3% rise at USD616 million in the two months.

Rubber witnessed strong growth in both volume and value with 193,000 tons during the period, worth USD382 million; up 25.4% in volume and a 2.4 fold increase in value.

Export turnover of wood and wooden products retained growth impetus at USD335 million in February, bringing the value to USD944 million in the two months, a year-on-year rise of 0.8%.

Meanwhile, seafood export value from the start of the year presented a 3.1% reduction over a year earlier at USD844 million.

Japan, the US, the Republic of Korea and China were the four biggest importers of Vietnamese seafood in January 2017, making 51.2% of the country’s total seafood export value./.
