GSO said the rise in pork price due to a drop in supply is one of the factors that made August CPI increase from the previous month.

Eight of 11 commodity and service groups saw price rises, in which medicine and medical services have the highest price hike at 2.81%, followed by education at 0.57%, because some localities raised tuition fees for the new school year.

Housing and construction material prices went up 0.33% mostly because of a 0.43% hike in rental costs. Restaurants and catering services increased 0.24% with food soaring 0.31% and foodstuffs 0.29%.

Garment and footwear prices rose 0.09%, household appliances 0.05%, beverages and cigarettes 0.03%, and other goods and services 0.14%.

Three groups saw decreases, including transportation (0.46%), culture, entertainment and tourism (0.06%), and post and telecommunications (0.05%).

Basic inflation in August soared 0.13% from the previous month and 1.95% from the same period last year. During the eight months of the year, it made a 1.9% year-on-year rise./.
