FDI attraction hits nearly USD19 billion in seven months

As of July 20th, total newly-registered and increased capital, capital contributions for capital for share purchases of foreign investors reached USD18.82 billion, 93.1% of the same period last year, said the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Of this figure, USD9.46 billion was registered to be poured into 1,620 new projects. Particularly, USD4 billion was registered to flow into the Bac Lieu LNG power plant. The big projects contributed to raising average capital of each projects from USD4.3 billion in 2019 to USD5.8 billion in 2020.
For increased capital, 619 ongoing projects registered for an additional USD4.7 billion, up 37.7%. The adjusted capital partially came from the southern petrochemical complex project in Ba Ria – Vung Tau with an increased capital of USD1.368 billion and the urban center project in the west of West Lake in Hanoi with USD774 million.
In the seven months, foreign investors spent nearly USD4.64 billion buying stakes at 4,459 projects.
According to the ministry, FDI was poured in 18 sectors during the period. Of this, the manufacturing and processing industry attracted the most capital with more than USD8.96 billion, accounting for 47.6% of the total. It was followed by power production and distribution with a total registered capital of USD3.95 billion (21%), real estate business with USD2.8 billion and wholesale and retail with USD1.1 billion.
The country saw the FDI inflow coming from 104 countries and territories from the start of this year. Singapore was the largest investor which registered to pour USD6.44 billion. It was followed by the Republic of Korea with USD2.8 billion, and China with USD1.7 billion./.
