Among the 11 statistical commodity groups, eight saw slight rises compared to the same period last year, including restaurant and catering services (0.81%); beverage and cigarette (0.72%); clothing, hats and footwear (0.02%); medicine and health services (0.12%); transport (0.6%); education (0.01%); entertainment and tourism (0.33%); and goods and other services (0.75%).

Meanwhile, price reduction was seen in groups such as housing, electricity and water (0.1%); equipment and housing appliances (0.03%); and post and telecom (0.18%).

According to the city Statistics Office, as February coincides with the seven-day Lunar New year (Tet) holiday, the demand for entertainment rising made prices of some groups increase, especially restaurant and catering services.

The Department of Industry and Trade said the city’s consumption capacity during the holiday increased about 15% compared to last Tet. The distribution systems such as supermarkets and stores had a higher rise, from 20-30%.

After Tet, people had high demand for buying gold, thus the prices of gold also soared sharply, at 0.71%, while the price of US dollars declined 0.02% from the previous month./.
