Five months: Pepper export worth USD627 million

(CPV) - Pepper export in the first five months of 2016 saw rapid growth in volume, but export value of the commodity decreased from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Specifically, pepper export volume was estimated to reach 19,000 tonnes in May, valued at USD71 million, bringing the figures for the five months to 87,000 tonnes, worth USD627 million, up 19% in volume but down 7.3% in value year - on - year.

Average pepper export price in the first four months this year posted USD8,111 per ton, a year-on-year decline of 11.8%. Major markets importing pepper from Vietnam in the four months were the US, India, the United Arab Emirates and Germany, with 44.39% of market share.

Meanwhile, markets witnessing export value growth were Germany (63%), India (25.4%), the US (20.8%) and the Republic of Korea (20.4%).

Currently, Vietnam holds a 32% share of the world’s pepper market, followed by India (18%) and Indonesia (16%)./.
