Footwear export bags near USD60 billion in six years

Footwear export turnover bagged USD57.5 billion over the past six years, according to the recent statistics of the General Department of Customs for shipment of the commodity in the 2011-2016 period.

Accordingly, total export value of footwear of all kinds continued to rise over the years. Specifically, the export value was USD6.5 billion in 2011, USD7.3 billion in 2012, USD8.4 billion in 2013, USD10.3 billion in 2014, USD12 billion in 2015 and USD13 billion in 2016.

The department’s statistics showed footwear export often began to grow in the second quarter and recorded the highest growth in the third quarter. In 2016, the export of the commodity reached USD1.08 billion a month, on average.

The US is the biggest importer of Vietnamese footwear as it made up about 30% of the country’s footwear export turnover and also accounted for about 11% of the nation’s total export turnover to the market.

In 2016, footwear export to the market was valued at USD4.48 billion, up 10% over a year earlier; followed by China (USD904.9 million), Belgium (USD825.4 million), Germany (USD764.7 million) and Japan (USD674.9 million)./.
