Fruit and vegetable exports surpass rice shipments

As of December 15th, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover reached USD2.3 billion, while rice export was only valued at USD2.1 billion, according to the General Department of Customs.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that over the past ten months, fruit and vegetable exports, especially fruit export, saw rapid growth.

In 2005, Vietnam’s fruits and vegetables appeared in 36 countries and territories, valued at more than USD235 million, but in 2015, the value increased by 123% against 2014 and 782% against 2005, penetrating into more than 60 countries and territories.

China is the biggest import market of the country’s fruits and vegetables with 70.4% of the total value. It was followed by the Republic of Korea, the US and Japan, making up 10% of the total.

Together with traditional markets, the sector actively expanded its market share to selective markets such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand./.
