This figure was released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) in a press conference held on March 29th to report the socio-economic situation in the quarter.

In his speech at the press conference, Head of GSO Nguyen Bich Lam said the GDP growth is due to timely and effective solutions of the Government, as well as efforts in performing urgent tasks of localities nationwide in the first months of 2018.

Reports at the event showed among the 7.38% growth of the whole economy; agriculture, forestry and aquaculture sector increased 4.05%, industry and construction sector rose 9.07% and services sector soared 6.07%.

In achieving these results, the economy saw strong changes in the structure of production. This quarter witnessed a shift in the structure of agricultural products in the direction of focusing on high economic value products as well as diversification of consumption markets, together with traditional markets.

In addition, the strong growth of the processing and manufacturing industry at 13.56% (the highest rate within the past 7 years) also contributed to the GDP growth./.
