Hanoi’s price index rises 0.22% in first month of 2019

Hanoi’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January 2019, the month before the Lunar New Year (Tet), increased 0.22% from the previous month and 3.92% year on year, reported the city Statistics Office.

Specifically, most commodity groups saw price rise, except transport and post and telecommunications.

After declines for several months, this month, the restaurants and catering services group had the biggest price hike at 0.92% from the previous month. Prices of almost all foods such as pork, poultry, beef, seafood products and vegetables soared.

The demand for travel and entertainment has also increased sharply, making the price index of the culture, entertainment and tourism group surge 0.78%.

The rise in flowers and decorative plants demand pushed the price index of other goods and services to 0.22% from the previous month.

Meanwhile, continuous reduction in petrol and diesel prices made the price index of the group decrease 6.89% from last month. As a result, transport service prices in the capital have fallen 2.92%./.
