Hanoi starts building smart city

A smart city project worth more than USD4 billion invested by the Sumitomo - BRG joint venture is expected to commence in Hanoi in the first quarter of 2018.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hosted a reception for Chief Executive Officer and President of Sumitomo Corporation Kuniharu Nakamura and President of the BRG Group Nguyen Thi Nga in the capital on December 7th to discuss the project slated for outlying Dong Anh district.

Nakamura said his company is calling on prestigious partners specialised in science and technology to join the project, which aims to build a smart city with a modern transport system.

Nga revealed that the smart city project with total investment of USD4.138 billion will cover 272 hectares. It consists of five phases. In the first phase, the joint venture will invest more than one billion USD on to build infrastructure.

In December, the joint venture will submit an adjustment plan to the municipal People’s Committee, she said.

Chairman Chung said local authorities will create the best conditions for the investor to carry out the project.

He proposed the Japanese firm - which has investment in industrial parks in Hanoi and elsewhere in Vietnam - call on Japanese small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in high technology to invest in Hanoi.

Earlier within the framework of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Japan on June 5th, 2017, the Nhat Tan-Noi Bai urban development cooperation project was signed between Hanoi People’s Committee and Sumitomo Group.

With the goal of building the most modern smart city in Southeast Asia, the project will be carried out in the north of Hanoi. The BRG Group will make a detailed plan for the project on an area of 2,080 hectares along Nhat Tan-Noi Bai route./.
