HCM city starts construction of new Southern Coach Station

On April 26th, Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (Samco) coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee to begin construction of the new Southern Coach Station.

The perspective of the project

The project spreads Long Binh precinct, District 9, Ho Chi Minh city (12.3 hectares) and Di An district, Binh Duong province (3.7 hectares).

As designed, the new Southern coach station will serve more than 7 million passenger arrivals a year to eastern, central and northern localities. On average, it meets the demand of about 21,000 passengers a day and 1,200 coach arrivals.

During peak time or holidays, the coach station is capable of serving 52,000 passengers with more than 1,800 coach arrivals. It also provides conveniences such as high-rise parking, repair area, refueling station, transit and commodity trade area, and trade service area.

The project is designed as a Transit-Oriented Development model, helping urban residents access public transport.

Deputy Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Van Khoa said the new coach station will serve as a key transport hub in the city’s transportation system.

The first phase will be completed by the end of 2017, meeting the requirements of relocation of the existing Southern coach station to the new one, and contributing to reducing traffic jams in the city.

The total capital is estimated at VND4 trillion (USD176.2 million), including expense for compensation and premise clearance./.
