Japan eyes investment in highway in Vietnam

Businesses of Japan’s Aichi prefecture wish to invest in a new highway project connecting Ho Chi Minh city with the future Long Thanh International Airport, with the hope that the project would become a new symbol in the Japan - Vietnam relationships.

Aichi Governor Omura Hideaki said this in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue on September 12th in Hanoi. 

The Governor expressed his hope for more flights connecting Aichi with HCM city, Da Nang and other cities of Vietnam. During this visit, Aichi businesses worked with the Vietnam national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and Viejet Air, and they received positive outcomes. 

Deputy PM Hue welcomed Aichi’s proposals for cooperation and investment, while adding that the Vietnamese Government is promoting the Long Thanh airport projects, and a highway linking HCM city with this airport plays a key role in addressing traffic congestion and boosting economic connectivity.

He hoped that the best businesses of Aichi will take part in investing in this project in Vietnam.

Aichi is an economic and industrial center in the central region of Japan with a population of 7.5 million and a GDP of about USD330 million, ranking third in the country. The prefecture’s industry is famous for auto manufacturing, Shinkansen high-speed trains and aerospace industry. 

Currently, about 32,000 Vietnamese people are living and studying in Aichi./.
