With Japanese experts completing their quarantine period on June 17th in line with regulations regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention and control, the group is expected to inspect batches of fresh lychees that are destined to be exported to the Japanese market in the near future.

The conclusion of their quarantine will see Japanese experts move to directly examine and supervise the phytosanitary measures and treatment that occurs for each batch of lychees, with only those deemed eligible by them being able to be shipped to the Far East country.
Local authorities are expected to apply preservation technology through the modified atmosphere packaging, Israel’s Juran technology, and Japan’s Cells Alive System, in an effort to improve the overall quality of lychee items.
By utililing this range of technologies, local lychee products will maintain their shape, taste, color, and nutritional value, whilst extending their shelf life, therefore meeting standards for export.
Following a request made by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Vietnamese lychees exported to Japan must be grown in gardens which have been supervised and granted area codes by the Plant Protection Department, in addition to complying with Japanese regulations regarding plant quarantine and food safety.
At present, a total of 19 growing area codes have been selected by the Plant Protection Department and granted approval by the Japanese side.
In line with the initial plan, the Japanese side had been expected to send experts to the nation in mid-April to inspect treatment facilities and directly examine and supervise the phytosanitary measures for each batch of local lychee items.
However, due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 epidemic, the plan was ultimately pushed back until early June./.
