July CPI inches up 0.11%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July increased 0.11% from the previous month, reported General Statistics Office.

Among 11 commodity groups making up the CPI calculation, eight saw price rises compared to a month earlier.

Specifically, price index of restaurants and catering services increased 0.54%, in which food rose 0.87% mainly due to pork prices soaring 3.19% and vegetables increasing 2.56%.

Medicine and health services surged 0.36%, equipment and housing appliances (0.09%), education (0.05%), beverage, cigarette and clothing, hats and footwear (0.04%).

Commodity groups and services witnessing price decreases were transport (1.52%), post and telecom (0.06%) and culture, entertainment and tourism (0.03%).

With this, the average CPI in the first seven months of the year rose 3.91% over a year earlier.

Basic inflation in July increased 0.11% from the previous month and went up 1.3% compared to the same period last year. The rate in the seven months surged 1.49% over a year earlier./.
