Lao Cai border gate EZ to be developed into key economic area

The northern mountainous province Lao Cai border gate economic zone (EZ) will be built into a key driving-force economic area, according to a general scheme for the EZ by 2040, with a vision to 2050, recently ratified by Prime Minister.

The scope of the scheme includes administrative boundaries of three precincts, 24 communes, and 1 town with 89 hamlets in Lao Cai city; and four districts: Bao Thang, Bat Xat, Muong Khuong, and Si Ma Cai.

The total area of the scheme is 15,929.8 hectares.

The scheme will focus on developing industry, urban area, trade and services with comprehensive technical infrastructure to satisfy the requirements for dynamic EZ and sustainable development; contributing to socio-economic development and improving the lives of border gate residents in the EZ, on the foundation of preserving natural ecosystem in combination with consolidating national defence security and protecting national sovereignty.

The EZ will also become a break-through point for economic development of Lao Cai, and northern mountainous and midland provinces; an economic hub of industry, trade, tourism and services; and one of the trade centres of ASEAN and southwestern China./.
