Northern province develops 281 hectares of litchi standard for exports to large markets

In 2020, the northern province of Bac Giang is producing litchi on an area of some 28,000 hectares with the expected productivity of 160,000 tons, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported.

Of 28,000 hectares of litchi, 14,300 hectares of litchi are produced according to Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP) standards and 80 ha are certified with GlobalGAP; and 218 hectares of litchi production area are maintained according to export standards to the US and EU.

The year 2020 is the first year Bac Giang province has developed a region of litchi for export to Japan. To complete this goal, since the beginning of the season, the Bac Giang provincial People's Committee issued a plan assigning tasks to departments, branches and districts, and allocated VND1 billion to support farmers in production.

So far, Bac Giang province has mobilized technical staff to direct farmers' production; and invited businesses to join export of litchi to Japan./.
