Numerous events to be held during APEC week on food security

(CPV) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will chair the APEC week on food security and high-level dialogue on food security and sustainable agriculture development in response to climate change on August 18th-25th in the Mekong city of Can Tho, under the framework of the APEC 2017 year.

APEC week on food security aims to enhance cooperation and mutual assistance among APEC, and build and develop sustainable and smart agriculture in response to climate change, and ensure food security.

At the same time, the event also helps boost cooperation in the transfer of science and technology, advanced technology and research in applying biotechnology to agriculture and intensify cooperation in nutrition security, food safety and food loss control.

These also offer opportunities for Vietnam’s agricultural sector to introduce and promote the potential of its agricultural products to APEC member economies and import markets.

The event is expected to attract delegates from 21 APEC members, international organizations, research institutions, senior officials, policy makers and the business community.

APEC ministers in charge of agriculture will adopt a Can Tho Declaration on enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change.

Major activities and events which will be organized at the event include: 

- High-level dialogue on food security and sustainable agriculture development in response to climate change

- Dialogue among Ministers and CEOs about the responsible use of natural resources to enhance food production and sustainable agricultural business, chaired by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the participation of APEC Business Advisory Council

- Annual meeting of APEC working groups: the Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS), the Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group (ATCWG), and the Oceans and Fisheries Working Group (OFWG), to foster cooperation among policy and technical-level experts on the food security - climate change relationship.

- Technical seminars within the framework of the working groups organized by international economic organizations.

- APEC agricultural forum on start-up business and innovation

- APEC exhibition on domestic and foreign agriculture./.
