Opportunities for Vietnam - Japan agricultural cooperation

The Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) on August 2nd organized a connection program for Vietnamese and Japanese agriculture, seafood and food enterprises in order to help them to find trade partners and expand markets.

The program was attended by Japanese firms operating in the field of seafood products, baby feed, and functional food with the aim of expanding the scale in one the most dynamic markets with high requirement on the quality of products.

A representative from Jetro said this year’s program will focus on a connection area for new importers and distributors and other for market expansion of ongoing enterprises who wish to extend their business network.

At each connection table, products will be arranged for buyers to have more information and increase the effectiveness of the connection program.

According to Jetro, Vietnam is considered a potential destination for shipment of food products to Japan. Although export turnover of oyster and cuttlefish in 2016 decreased 6.4% from last year but it grew rapidly in 2017 at 22.4%.

In addition, with the third largest population in ASEAN, together with economic growth, the awareness of Vietnamese consumers about the quality of food hygiene and safety also heightened, pushing the demand of Japanese-origin food which is famous for quality and food safety.

In 2017, the event attracted the participation of more than 300 Vietnamese buyers with many contracted signed./.
